Shanthi K Appanna is a brilliant storyteller of our times. Her 'Manasu Abhisaarike', a collection of kannada story stories ,published in 2016, bagged many awards including the prestigious Kendra Saahithya Academy. Being a Nurse,by profession, she richly deserves it as she brought a new perspective to the genre of Kannada Short Story.
In her stories, Shanthi Appanna, moves through several corners of the world- the rustic, the urban, male-female relationships, the subalterns, the oppressed and oppressor.
The notable critic H S Raghavendra Rao writes of her stories: “Shanthi Appanna confronts the philosophical question of whether it is life itself that is monotonous to the end, or just the ways in which we perceive life".
The art of perceiving nuances of the life, grand narration, elegant thoughtfulness of analysing the philosophical logic of human relationships(especially ,male and female ), the mind, material sciences , the environment - are rather impressive. Moreover, she tells the stories boldly and that becomes the pith of her story telling .
